Heart cushion.

I like to experiment. The idea came from a post.

Here is the pattern.

I increased the internal square.

The heart size is 30cm by 30cm ( 10’’ x 10’’)

I made several versions with different combinations of materials.

This is the reverse side of the layout of the pieces

numbered 1 to 13.

Here is the completed heart patterned cushion.

Variation in red and white.

МY THIMBLES

  Collecting thimbles

I saw this thimble marked “December” which is the month that I was born. I decided to start a collection of thimbles that would remind me of places I’ve been and people that I have met. Each one tells a story and their number are increasing. Each one holds a memory to treasure.

This is my old plastic thimble which brings fond memories of my late Grandmother. She did a lot of sewing and passed on to me her love of it.

This thimble is from Sofia, capital of Bulgaria

Memories  from  NESSEBAR, BULGARIA

source Wikipedia

Nessabar is a one of the most prominent tourist destinations and seaports on the Black Sea.
Nesebar has on several occasions found itself on the frontier of a threatened empire, and as such it is a town with a rich history. The ancient part of the town is situated on a peninsula (previously an island) connected to the mainland by a narrow man-made isthmus, and it bears evidence of occupation by a variety of different civilisations over the course of its existence. Its abundance of historic buildings prompted UNESCO to include Nesebar in its list of World Heritage Sites in 1983.

"THE APPLES"

QUILT 50 x 50 cm or 20 x 20 in

I had fabric with pictures of apples. I made nine squares and edged with strips of blue fabric. I backed this into strips of orange and yellow and sewed motifs to enhance the overall effect.

Christmas Gifts

"Let us remember that the Christmas heart is a giving heart, a wide open heart that thinks of others first." George Matthew Adams (The Christmas Heart)"

So remember while December Brings the only Christmas day, In the

year let there be Christmas In the things you do and say"

These thoughts are always with me at Christmas time. I produce my own gifts for my friends and family. Here I will share some of them with you.

Cover 50 x 50 cm ( 20 x 20 in )

I used Equipment Courthouse step.  In this variation strips are sewn on opposite sides of the centre square in an alternate yellow/red sequence.  This pattern  is sometimes also known as Chinese Lanterns.
I begin with the middle, then left, right yellow tape up, down red tape. I close with a blue border use a sewing stitch. I used the colors of Christmas, and in the middle is a quilted star.

Merry-Go- Round Cushion

Idea for a cushion. This was the first lesson I learnt from my friends at the patchwork club.In the centre use a Four Patch block. Use two squares of two different fabrics, triangulated and sewn together. Central banding with stripes optional.

The back should look neat and tidy.

“London- 2012” cushion

This cushion was inspired by the London Olympics 2012. I used pieces of denim and motives of London attractions. I used the idea of the Friendship Star Quilt Block.

http://quilting.about.com/od/starquiltblockpatterns/ss/Friendship-Star-Quilt-Block-Pattern.htm

The pattern block is very easy to complete. For me it was best to mount motifs of London in the four centers of the stars and in the middle square the symbol of the Olympic rings.

Finally get a very good size 42 x 42 cm ( 16,5 x 16,5 in )

The first cushion I gave as gift and then I sewed a second one for myself with some minor modifications

Crazy Patchwork

Crazy Patchwork is a random design of patchwork quilting where remnants of materials can be used. A pattern is not required and the outcome is decided as the design unfolds. This makes a unique creation. Start in the middle with polygonal ( pentagonal) and subsequently sew the individual pieces. Sew up the pieces in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. Tailor each piece of material to complement the design as you sew up each piece of fabric. There are no rules for combining colors. Finally the completed pieces can be further enhanced by stitching lines at random to complement the design.
